Experience in Kampung Orang Asli Kemensah

Assalammualaikum and hye guys,
Today I want to share with you. This is a true story based on my experience. During my second year, my friends and I were given a task related to the Cross-Culture subject and we decided to go to Kampung Orang Asli Kemensah in Gombak which total population is about 63 people in various age @ 26 families only. I felt shocked although they live within the city they still live in poverty without easy access to clean water, electricity and food. Luckily, in terms of their housing, they’ve received help from the government.

Do you know that, nearly 60% of the population from this small village are children? Not all of them receive education and if they do it is until the primary level only. According to our interview session, only nearly 8 children receive the education. When it rains, going to school is a big problem for them. When they’re older, they cannot continue their education and will most likely work as cleaners in a nearby village.

I feel sad when heard about the situation from the representatives about the children. Their basic rights are removed from them at such a young age. Rights are what you should have or be able carry out to have the best start in life. Every girl and boy, regardless of their gender, ethnicity, religion, language, abilities, and whatever their family background, has the right to be happy, healthy, educated, protected and loved.

You can see how happy they are when we took pictures together after we gave them food, books, stationary, and reused clothing. Even a corn Gardenia bread (you can zoom in the white plastic that I brought in the second picture) which I thought at first it’s maybe too little for them but in their eyes, it’s great. I can see the joy from their smile. I can see how hunger they are in grabbing the food, especially.

So guys, let’s join @unicefmalaysia Picture My Rights Contest for World Children’s Day to promote and celebrate child rights #foreverychild! Just snap a photo, design a digital illustration or draw a doodle… and show the world what every child and teen needs for a happy and healthy childhood!#endorsed #picturemyrights #children4change

  2. Tak sangka pula mereka masih tak dapat kemudaham awam yang penting seperti kemudahan air dan elektrik. Kalau travel kat mana-mana pun mesti masih ada kaum etnik asli yang masih hidup macam ni :(

  3. Eventhough i live nearby kemensah i have no idea that these org asli are living there. Kemensah is always relate to big expensive yet exclusive bungalow. How this kind of situation is still exist -no proper facilities and the children not received education. Lets support unicef malaysia to promote children right.
